Pastor’s Reflections

April 24, 2022
Easter -A Day, Or…?
Easter-Christ’s Resurrection, is, remember, a Season!
So: Don’t commit treason, for this Reason: He’s the Risen Beacon!
It’s Easter Time. Okay, so you celebrated last Sunday, but let’s continue on.
Intensely, in the extended Season until Pentecost--fifty days of festivity and celebration.
After all, hopefully you repented for some forty days in Lent. So, as Dr. Tim Gray, of The Augustine Institute,
says, “One day is not sufficient to take in the mystery of Christ’s Resurrection.”
The Church is saying, “This is a Season of Joy-rejoicing!’” With Lent being 40 days and Easter 50 days,
Dr. Gray says our Church puts emphasis on feasting not fasting. So, Dr. Gray counsels, keep…flowers around-
in a prominent place; share festive meals; gather together-feast with others!
And, amidst even difficult news like the Ukraine and, still, people suffering all over the world, we may still
celebrate with joy and with an eye on those who have less, or nothing.
Upshot: Christians and Catholics can both be festive and faithful to others in sorrow; we can both be joyful
and feed and love the poor.

Another way to celebrate is through Anamnesis which is an ancient notion, meaning recollection, and a ritual
practice, wherein: The past is made present. The First Christians practiced The Lord’s Eucharist (Acts 2:42 /
10:11) a re-presentation of His Last Supper and Death (not a literal repetition thereof). So, too, the
Resurrection is on-going, as St. Paul notes: “I want to know Christ and the power of His Resurrection”
Phil. 3:10; See also Rm. 8:11). Though Jesus is not literally rising in Israel, a la “Ground Hog Day” daily, but His
Life, Light, Power and Graces are active and on-going now! So, access this Divine Power; breakthrough any
stones which cover the Tomb or your heart; and channel His Resurrection Graces into your soul. So, meditate
(for 50 days!) upon: Him within / Rising Again. Repeat and visualize these words—and reality- and allow Him
to floss out troubles and gloss you in His divine mantle!
